Time is of the essence! Even the smallest delay can impact the search for a new therapeutic drug. And because study protocols often require the use of multiple animal species or strains, it’s critical that these models are readily available for your in vivo research programs—at one location or across multiple locations. With production facilities located across North America and around the world, Charles River can provide an uninterrupted supply of proven, high-quality animal models from a diverse portfolio that includes mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, and rabbits.

Expert Animal Transport

In the United States, our 30-year partnership with Direct Services, Inc., ensures that your animals will arrive in the same health condition as when they left our facility. For scheduling flexibility, Direct Services is linked into the Charles River computer system for real-time updates of delivery schedules or delivery requirements.

In Europe, 99% of all deliveries are also made by a dedicated ground transport. All animals are accompanied by health reports and shipping documentation and are also shipped in climate-controlled vehicles by drivers specifically trained in handling and transporting live animals.

  • Drivers and managers have been trained by Charles River in animal delivery requirements and in Charles River's Total Quality Management process.
  • Deliveries are exclusive to the Charles River system, and drivers will not carry any animals from other institutions or suppliers.
  • Vehicles are temperature-controlled and equipped with redundant back-up systems.
  • Delivery schedules are flexible.

CheckpointBiosecurity

As a LAR Manager, it is important to understand how the animals you receive are bred and maintained under a strict biosecurity program. The Charles River barrier room system is radically different from micro-isolation caging commonly utilized across the industry. Our operational philosophy centers on developing a physical barrier impervious to unwanted microorganisms. Key to the operation of any barrier room is the ability to minimize the number of transfers of materials, supplies and staff across the barrier. While great measures are taken to exclude agents from a barrier room, we employ certain procedures within it to ensure quick detection in the event there is a breach in biosecurity.

The Barrier Room - accept no substitute!

CheckpointComplementary Services
